I Ridiculously Invested In An Apple Instead Of A Maple

Three weeks ago, I bought my first Apple MacBook.

Before that I have 3 laptops. One, I gave it away to my father in law. Two, is 3 years old. Three, is 2.5kg. I travel frequently too. It makes perfect sense to have a light weight lappie as a travel companion.

I went to Digital Mall in PJ and brought home a 13″ MacBook Air.

One stupid investment.

Barely one week later, the above ad came out. My MacBook Air became the 2.5x slower version. There, RM3,999 for a 2.5 times slower MacBook Air.

Silver was trading at around USD35.0 that day. It will take 38 ounces of silver to buy my Macbook Air then. Now that my MacBook is the older generation, I lost 30% value from it. I bang my head and wonder why I didn’t invest in Maples instead.

Now that it’s a past, I decided to make a comparison between the both of them just for the sake of it. Silly, I know.

Origin

MacBook Air – Designed by Apple, Made in China.
Maple – Designed by Royal Canadian Mint, Made in Canada.

Appearance

Both look silvery.

Weight

Apple MacBook Air weighs 1.32kg. 38 ounces of Silver Maple weighs 1.18kg.

Material

MacBook Air’s casing is made from aluminum and probably some silver in motherboard or battery. Maple is .9999 fine silver.

WildlifeLion Vs Bear!

Apple replaces Snow Leopard to Lion. Maple replaces Timber Wolf to Grizzly Bear.

Accessories

RM100-RM200 for some fluorescent casing to cover MacBook Air. RM80-RM100 for 38 transparent Air-Tites capsules to cover Maples.

12 Months Projection

Steve Job will update the Air again and make the current Air 2.5 times slower. Silver Maple is expected to trade at above USD$50/oz.

Why am I writing this?

I am just frustrated that I bought my MacBook Air at the wrong time. While I monitor the prices of precious metal day and night, I don’t do that for technology. Computers are designed to be depreciated. Technologies are to be upgraded. Today’s in will be tomorrow’s out.

Precious metals on the hand is entirely different.

It’s timeless.

I started writing this posting with silver at today’s high of USD42.6. By the time I am about to publish, silver nose dived to USD38.5. Even with that, if I had invested in Maple instead of MacBook Air, my return would be at 10% and not 2.5 times slower.

Now, I shall head down to the nearest Starbucks and start looking cool in my new slow MacBook Air.

Iphone 5? Anyone?
